Bulls–32, Cowboy–0 Eight seconds elude cowboys; longest ride is 6.82 seconds

The Morrill County Farm and Ranch Rodeo Association sponsored the third annual Bucking Stock and Bull Riding competition on Saturday, August 16th at the Morrill County Fair Grounds. The dual competition, sponsored by the Midwest Bucking Bull Association and United Bucking Bulls Inc., involved bulls and riders from throughout the Midwest as breeders of the bucking stock competed for cash prizes and points in hopes of advancing their bulls to the Professional Bull Riders competitions.

Excited for the first day of school

Smokey turns 70

Smokey Bear celebrated his 70th birthday on Sunday, August 17, in Bridgeport when the Volunteer Fire Department sponsored a party held at the Rural Fire Hall. Entertained with cake, door prizes and games, many children from the community attended the event to help Smokey Bear celebrate the momentous occasion. Since 1944, Smokey has served as the face of fire prevention for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service, encouraging people to take personal responsibility when dealing with flames with his signature phrase, “Only you can prevent forest fires.”

Kicking off the 2014-2015 school year

Water, sand, food and fun—what does that make you think of? For the Bridgeport High School Student Council, it makes them think of a very successful back-to-school bash. The evening was enjoyed by around 80 junior/senior high students. The students participated in free swimming time, sand volleyball, visiting with friends, and, of course, eating!

Junior Tennis Team continues improvement at Scottsbluff

The Bridgeport Junior Tennis team traveled to Scottsbluff to participate in the Junior Tennis Invitational on Saturday, August 16th. Competing in both singles and doubles matches, David Argamosa earned a first place medal in the Boys’ 14 year old singles division and teamed up with Jace Pauli from Gering to capture the Boys’ 14 year old doubles title. Rounding out the Boys’ 14 year old division were Jace Pauli earning second place, followed by Bridgeport’s Jakob Keim in third. Alex and Harrison Barnette both captured second place medals in their respective divisions.

Church Trap League results

Bayard Bible Church won the second go around and will donate their winnings, $400.00, to KCMI Radio. A special thanks to the Bridgeport Lions Club for their donation to the trap league along with the Bridgeport News-Blade for their wonderful coverage throughout the summer.
