City advanced ordinance to allow laying hens in the city limits

The Bridgeport Planning Commission presented their recommendation regarding changing the zoning classification of property located at 913 and 914 L Street from “R1” Residential District to “HC” Highway Commercial. The council held a hearing to obtain public comments on the zoning change. Ordinance 1019 adopting the zoning change was adopted, waiving the three-reading requirement.

Ordinance 1017 fixing the rates for electricity effective May 1, 2025 was adopted on final reading. Ordinance 1020, which confirmed the sale of the property containing the city public works buildings to J.D. Nein for $165,250 and the old museum property to Wilis Beyer for $65,500, was adopted.

Ordinance 1021 was introduced that would amend City Code § 90.03 to allow each household within the city to harbor up to six (6) chickens, specifically laying hens, for the purpose of egg production and harvesting for personal use. The existing language allowing fowl for pets or showing animals was not changed.The amendment also banned roosters. Ordinance 1021 was advanced to second reading.
