Bridgeport BOE approves raises, tackles student and facility issues

The Bridgeport Board of Education convened its regular meeting on June 9, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library, with all board members in attendance.The meeting addressed key financial, educational, and infrastructure updates, reflecting the district’s commitment to improving staff support and student outcomes.

The consent agenda, which included approval of minutes, financial reports, bills, and payroll, was unanimously approved with a 6-0 vote.Two action items were also passed unanimously: a 4.5% pay increase for principals effective August 1, 2025, and an increase in classified staff wages effective September 1, 2025, as presented.

Mrs. Reynolds provided updates on end-of-year NSCAS and ACT testing, sharing insights on student performance and reporting. She also discussed Part C Special Education needs for the upcoming school year, outlining schedules and planned support for students. Mr. Blanco reported on summer school, noting that approximately 12 high school students and 10 junior high students are currently enrolled. He also addressed ongoing student parking challenges, stating that he is evaluating the issue and will propose solutions at the next meeting. Additionally, Mr. Blanco raised concerns about student attendance, emphasizing the district’s policy of enforcing credit loss for students with more than nine unexcused absences.
