Bombers prep wins thriller, drops road contest

With cars lined up on both sides of the fence, and bleachers full of spectators, the Bridgeport Bombers prep team took on the Gering GO Baseball squad. Hayzen Elliott toed the rubber for the Bombers and pitched soundly for three innings, only allowing two runs. Entering the last inning Bridgeport clung to a six run lead. Little by little, with the help of some timely hitting, the team from Gering chipped away and tied the score at 9. After an unsuccessful trip to the plate for the Bombers, the game was headed to extra innings.

To this point there had been runs scored in each of the first five innings. Room for error was minimized as each team looked to get runners on base and move them around. Gering put two runners on base to begin the sixth, before Benjamin Simmons picked off the lead runner. He then got the third out by inducing a lazy fly ball to the outfield.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Bombers put a runner on as well, though he was also erased on a good pickoff move. With the score still knotted at nine, the game went to the second extra stanza.
