RUSHVILLE—The Bridgeport Bombers junior legion baseball team concluded its season competing at the Class C, Area 7 tournament this past weekend at historic Modisett Ball Park in Rushville. Bridgeport, seeded fifth, went 1-2 in the tournament and ended the season with a final record of 2-14.
The Bombers opened tournament play on Friday against second-seeded Valentine.They trailed just 4-0 through three and a half innings of play, but Valentine broke things open by plating nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to go on for a 13-0 win.The Valentine pitching proved lethal as the Bombers were limited to just one hit, a single by Ruben Dominguez. Kaden Shultz and Blake Dean both reached base with walks.
Shultz got the start on the mound. He allowed four runs on five hits and struck out four in three innings of work. Noah Compton and Jaxson Shultz also saw action on the mound in relief for the Bombers.
