Petitioner and principal circulator Jessica McKay presents the county clerk’s office with the petition and signatures to recall the county assessor, Rose Nelson. The circulators collected well over 700 signatures for validation. The clerk has up to 15 business days to verify the signatures of registered voters. If there is a sufficient number of signatures, the clerk will notify the county assessor and the county commissioners. The commissioners shall, within 21 days after receiving this notification, order an election and notify the clerk. The special election shall be held at least eight Fridays after the clerk is notified and on the first Tuesday following the second Monday of the selected month, except that if such day falls upon a legal holiday, the election shall be held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday of the selected month. If the recall election fails, another recall petition cannot be filed until 12 months have passed. If the recall election is successful, the county commissioners will appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 45 days.
