County Clerk Kathy Brandt submits letter of resignation

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Morrill County commissioners, County Clerk Kathleen Brandt submitted her resignation effective December 31, 2025. She thanked the board and stated that she enjoyed working in the clerk’s office for 30 years. She has confidence in her staff and their ability to support whoever takes her place.The board accepted her resignation with appreciation.The clerk position will be advertised for three weeks, with applications due September 25 and interviews to be conducted on September 29.

As the Board of Equalization, the commissioners approved the tax list corrections. County Attorney Kirk Fellhoelter presented information regarding a Nebraska Attorney General opinion sent to assessors and county attorneys, stating that assessors open themselves up to trespassing charges if they enter private property without an invitation to do the tax assessments. Fellhoelter’s advice is to:

• Perform assessments from the street, the sidewalk or the alley • Obtain information from building permits
