Bridgeport marked its official Arbor Day 2025 with a special community tree giveaway on Sat., September 27. The Bridgeport Tree Board teamed up with the North Platte Natural Resources District (NP NRD), the Nebraska Forest Service, and local Scout troops to host the event, which brought neighbors together to learn, volunteer, and take home new trees.

Tree Board President Susan Myers opened the celebration by reading the official Arbor Day proclamation signed by Mayor Gail Beyer, affirming the City’s ongoing commitment to growing and caring for its community forest.

Community Forester Chrissy Land of the Nebraska Forest Service and Todd Filipi, Resource Conservation Coordinator with the NP NRD, led a hands-on tree planting demonstration, showing best practices for planting and caring for young trees. Additional NRD and NE FS staff were on hand to answer questions about tree selection, care, and long-term maintenance. Thanks to support from an Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) grant, the event distributed 54 trees to attendees and public spaces. This grant also helps Bridgeport continue planting trees across the community and assists property owners in removing dead or hazardous “scary trees.”
