The Leyton Warriors volleyball team kicked off their week with a home triangular on October 14, delivering a tale of two matches that showcased their resilience and firepower. Hosting the Minatare Indians and Creek Valley Storm, Leyton split the evening’s action, dropping a hard-fought three-setter to Minatare before bouncing back with a commanding straight-sets victory over Creek Valley. The results left the Warriors at 7-20 overall (5-6 in district play), a gritty performance that highlighted key contributors like seniors Macey Roelle and Aspen Snyder, and sophomore setter Auvi Cranmore.
Gritty Battle Falls Short Against Minatare In the opener, Leyton put up a valiant effort against a Minatare squad that has proven to be a thorn in their side this season. The Warriors seized an early edge, storming to a 25-21 win in the first set behind aggressive serving and timely kills. Macey Roelle, the team’s offensive sparkplug, wasted no time, racking up multiple kills to fuel the momentum. However, Minatare regrouped in the second set, flipping the script with a 25--16 triumph that exposed some Leyton serving inconsistencies. The decider was a nail-biter, with Leyton hanging tough until the end but ultimately falling 25-18. The loss snapped a brief streak but underscored the Warriors’ fight; they out-dug their opponents significantly, logging 88 digs as a team compared to Minatare’s season average. Roelle anchored the back row with a match-high 28 digs (9.3 per set), while her 12 kills (4.0 per set) kept Leyton’s attack alive despite a 30% kill efficiency hampered by 20 errors on 110 attempts.
Aspen Snyder emerged as a serving sensation, notching four aces on 11 attempts (36.4% ace rate) to disrupt Minatare’s rhythm. Cranmore, playing the role of floor general, dished out 13 assists (4.3 per set) while contributing 14 digs and two aces of her own.
