A dance/drill team was recently introduced to the 2025 school year. Cheerleaders who chose to be part of the dance team will perform during winter sports activities. Dance team members are junior Silvie Holliday; sophomores Avery Schneider, Kayci Sorenson, Alexis Liras, Makayla Jackson, and Kyndell Kesselring; and freshman Jane Plummer. Dance team Coach Kaitlyn Plummer explained, “My motivation for starting a drill team comes from my own lifelong connection to the sport. I grew up as a cheerleader and dance team member in Sidney and continued dancing throughout college at Hastings. Those years gave me discipline and shaped my confidence in ways that impact me today.”

The dance team will perform at halftime during the high school boys and girls varsity basketball games. Plummer added, “I’ve always enjoyed coaching especially in a sport that empowers girls and women. I always knew coaching cheer or somehow supporting the program would eventually be in my future due to my own experience in the sport, so when Mr. Blanco called me last year, I knew I would give my best to help build and advocate for the program.”

This year there are two squads: Fall andWinter. The Fall squad cheers for football and volleyball games, and performed during halftime of the Homecoming game.TheWinter squad’s focus will be on drill and dance: “When these girls look back ten years from now, I want every single one of them to remember the fun they had, the confidence they built, and the pride they felt while being part of the Bridgeport Cheer/ Drill program. Life is too short not to enjoy what you choose to invest your time in,” adds Plummer. Cheer and dance can be a way to express who you are and have fun doing it. Cheerleading and dance requires dedication, precision, strength, and discipline, but these girls make it fun as they cheer on athletes, and we cheer on the cheerleaders and dancers!
