Advent, a time to b e available to God
Mary and Elizabeth prepare to give birth to their sons.The gospel reading for this coming Sunday describes the visit that Mary had with her cousin, Elizabeth. Both women are models of welcoming the Lord, being always ready to accept his will. Elizabeth welcomed Jesus into her heart, into her joy; Mary welcomed him into her womb, but also into her faith and into her whole life.
Mary is the Lady ofYes, the one who gives herself to God’s will with total availability: “ I am the hand maid of the Lord...let what you have said be done to me,” are her words to the angel Gabriel (Luke 1:38).
