Students “can” Bridgeport teachers

On December 12th, Bridgeport high school and junior high students were challenged by the National Honors Society to “can” the doors of teachers’ classes in which students wanted a free day.The students brought in cans of food and covered their teachers’ doors up to the handle in order to earn themselves a free day in that class.

This fun for a good cause was orchestrated to benefit Bridgeport’s food pantry. Determined students arrived at school well before 7:50 in the morning to construct their can towers, working cooperatively to block selected classroom doors.When the can towers began to rise, students had to resort to packing tape to keep their towers up so they did not topple over, creating a messy pile and leaving class to still be in session.

Mrs. Dohse’s first period English class had their own interpretation of canning by simply leaving their bags of cans in front of the Dohse’s door, and they ended up still having to attend class. In the end, Mrs. Loomis’, Mrs Van Winkle’s, Mr. Reimers’, Coach Sterkel’s, Mrs.
