In a dramatic doubleheader that lived up to the intensity of the Cheyenne County rivalry, the Leyton Warriors secured hard-fought victories in both the girls’ and boys’ basketball games against the host Potter- Dix Coyotes on Friday, January 16.The night featured gritty defense, clutch shooting, and late-game heroics, especially in the girls’ contest.
The girls’ game delivered the most excitement, with the visiting Leyton LadyWarriors edging out the Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes 32-30.This marked Leyton’s first win of the season, improving their record to 1-9, while Potter-Dix fell to 3-9.
The low-scoring affair was defined by tough defense and missed opportunities at the line. Leyton shot just 5-of-14 from the free-throw line but made key plays down the stretch. Senior Macey Roelle led all scorers with 13 points before fouling out late in the third quarter. Freshman Kennedy Roelle provided a huge spark with 9 points, all from three three-pointers in the second half. Sophomore Auvi Cranmore sealed the victory with a go-ahead mid-range jumper in the final moments, adding 6 points overall (including 2-of-6 free throws).
