The Leyton boys’ basketball team extended their dominance in district competition, improving to an impressive 14-5 overall record (5-0 in district) with a pair of solid victories earlier this month.
On February 3, the Warriors hosted Sedgwick County and pulled away for a 61-49 win at home. Junior standout Calvin Borgmann led the charge with a gamehigh 28 points, adding 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Austin Beutler contributed a double- double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Despite Sedgwick County’s efficient shooting from key players like Noah Harens (22 points) and Tate Renquist (16 points), Leyton’s rebounding edge (34-15) and balanced attack secured the victory.
Three days later, on February 6, Leyton edged Creek Valley 37-34 in a tightly contested matchup, also at home. Borgmann again paced the Warriors with 12 points, while sophomore Colt Van Anne added 9. The Warriors shot an efficient 59% from the field and forced key turnovers, holding off Creek Valley’s Mason Timm, who scored 16 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The narrow win marked Leyton’s closest contest in recent weeks.
