The long trip west to the Panhandle didn’t bother the Lincoln Christian boys basketball team as the Crusaders used a big second half to beat Bridgeport 65-55 in the Class C-1, District 5 championship game on Saturday afternoon at Bridgeport High School.
Lincoln Christian, which improved to 18-8, outscored the Bulldogs 37-25 in the final two quarters to punch its first ticket to the state tournament since 2020. Jamison Thies led all scorers with 25 points.
The setback ended Bridgeport’s impressive campaign at 22-6. It’s the second straight year the Bulldogs have fell one win short of advancing to state. Sean Sterkel’s squad has played in a district final for the past nine years in a row.
