BRIDGEPORT—The Morrill County Board of Commissioners held its regular meeting Tuesday, in the Commissioners’ Room at the courthouse, covering routine business, a property subdivision, a proposed switch to a new GIS mapping system, and approval of a multi-year budget preparation contract.
Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the subdivision of property, presented by Matthew Huck. They also approved a $150,000 transfer to the road fund and a fund transfer to correct a clerical error identified by Treasurer McCoy. A $98,000 hospital rebate check had been deposited into the general fund instead of the health fund approximately two years earlier; the transfer ensures the hospital claim can now be paid from the proper account.
Assessor John Erickson discussed a proposal to switch the county’s GIS mapping system from gWorks to Beacon (provided by Schneider). Erickson noted the current system’s outdated website and limited support for advanced agricultural land valuation, appeal processes, and public transparency features. Beacon, already in use in Scotts Bluff County, offers integration with existing county systems (MIPS and CAMA), tax estimation tools, comparable property analysis, and improved public access to documents and maps.
