GROK SPORTS DESK Leyton High School’s track hosted the MAC Track Meet on Friday, May 1, and turned in an impressive showing, posting several event wins, strong placings, and personal bests across both the boys’ and girls’ sides.
Alec Watchorn led the way for Leyton, dominat- the sprints and hurdles. He clocked 11.54 seconds to finish among the top in the 100-meter varsity finals (after running 11.72 in prelims) and swept the hurdle events, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 17.30 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 40.32 seconds. Austin Beutler had a stellar day as well, placing high in the 100-meter finals (12.01 seconds) and taking second in the 200-meter varsity finals with a time of 24.27 seconds after a strong 24.35 in prelims. He also leaped a personal best of 19 feet, 6.5 inches in the long jump for another top-three finish. Other notable boys’ performances included:
• Riley Benish won the 1,600-meter varsity final in 5:02.69.
