Stellar pitching, strong defense, and timely hitting powered the Bridgeport junior legion baseball team to a second-place finish at the Sidney tournament held this past weekend in Sidney. The Bombers went 2-2 against stiff competition to earn the impressive finish.

Bridgeport opened the tournament with a 15-3 win over Chappell’s Buckley Bombers before falling to Class B powerhouse Alliance 9-0. In the final day on Sunday, the Bombers recorded a huge 9-5 win over the host team Sidney to punch their ticket to the championship game against Alliance. The Spartans once again got the best of the Bombers in a much closer contest by a final score of 6-1.

“Credit to our pitching staff,” Bomber coach James Simmons said. “We are in a stretch where we play a lot of games in very few days. We needed our pitchers to go deep into games, and all four starters this tournament did.”
