SCOTTSBLUFF—The Oregon Trail Community Foundation (OTCF) launched the OTCF Morrill Fire Relief Fund in May to support individuals and families impacted by the Morrill wildfires across the region. To date, the Foundation has raised more than $143,573.00 through online donations, community contributions via Platte Valley Bank and Riverstone Bank drop off and Platte points, and OTCF Donor Advised Funds.
To ensure funds are distributed thoughtfully and effectively, OTCF convened a committee to evaluate how donations could best serve those impacted. Following careful consideration, the committee elected to direct the proceeds from the Morrill Fire Relief Fund to the Nebraska Sandhills Rancher Fire Relief Fund (NSRFR).This fund is administered by the Garden County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Kearney Area Community Foundation. To date, they have raised over 1.5 million dollars. This committee is guided by a committee that includes ranchers from each of the affected counties, ensuring that aid reaches those with the greatest need. This fund accepted applications from individuals impacted by the fires throughout the region.
The OTCF Morrill Fire Relief Fund has received generous support from partner organizations across the state, including donors via the Omaha Community Foundation and the Merrick Community Foundation.
