The Morrill County Commissioners met Tuesday morning, August 11, in the courthouse with one member on excused absence. After the Pledge of Allegiance, they approved the agenda (with a minor change), July 30 minutes, and claims. Correspondence included a thank-you for funeral assistance and word that an EMPG grant reimbursement will come as an $11,000 deduction.
Luke Bonkiewicz of NACO briefed the board on updated county fact sheets, one-page legislative briefs, and the upcoming long session. He noted ongoing pressure on the inheritance tax (about $100 million statewide for counties) and reviewed LB 663’s new “shot-clock” rules for zoning permits. NACO’s toolkit for solar, wind, and similar projects is available; officials acknowledged Morrill County’s 2000-era plan needs updating.
Assessor John Erickson presented a formal process for disposing of surplus personal property under $3,500.The board approved the policy and form so unused items can be sold or donated before they lose value.
