Three veterans were awarded Quilts of Valor at the annual burger feed fund raiser on August 11, sponsored by the Morrill County Veterans Service Office.

Robert G. Smith enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in September of 1957. After completing basic training, he was transferred to the 818th headquarter squadron, Lincoln Air Force Base (LAFB), Lincoln, NE.

At LAFB, a double wing base, he processed aircraft maintenance reports as well as payroll and other reporting on IBM data processing machines. He was temporarily on duty to civilian and military training.They helped implement a payroll system for 2nd Air Force. Smith was augmented to air police squadron to perform security for all aircraft and military personnel on the flight line. He was honorable discharged in September 1961.
