Fairness for Girls petition certified for November ballot

The Secretary of State’s office announced today that the Fairness for Girls Constitutional Amendment petition has qualified to appear on the 2026 general election ballot.

The Nebraska Fairness for Girls Constitutional Amendment aims to establish protections for sex-separated athletics in public schools, requiring that athletic teams be designated based on biological sex.

To appear on the ballot, a constitutional amendment petition requires valid signatures from at least 10% of registered voters in Nebraska and at least 5% of registered voters in 38 counties.The Fairness for Girls Constitutional Amendment petition collected at least 138,613 valid signatures. Petition organizers collected valid signatures from at least 5% of registered voters in 59 counties. The Elections Division instructed county election offices to conclude signature verification after the number of valid signatures met the 110% threshold as permitted in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 32-1409.
