GERING—Weather permitting, construction work will begin on or around Sept. 14 on U.S. Highway 26 (US26), U.S. Highway 385 (US385), and Nebraska Highway 88 (N-88), according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
Werner Construction, Inc., of Hastings, is the prime contractor for this project. Construction work will include concrete work throughout town, including mainline concrete pavement repairs, installation of ADA-compliant ramps and curb and sidewalk upgrades. Traffic will be maintained with channelizing traffic control devices and Automated Flagger Assistance Flagger Devices (AFADs) as needed.
Additional improvements planned for later this summer include adding a pedestrian crosswalk equipped with flashing beacons to enhance safety and relocating fire hydrants. Existing roadway milling and asphalt overlay are scheduled when the concrete work is complete.
