June 27th declared Keep Nebraska Beautiful Day

Nebraskans are urged to take part in statewide day of service.

This Saturday, June 27, has been declared Keep Nebraska Beautiful Day by Governor Pete Ricketts. The day is led by Keep Nebraska Beautiful. Together with its’ affiliate nonprofit organizations across the state, Keep Nebraska Beautiful is dedicated to providing environmental education, litter cleanup, waste reduction, and improved recycling to all Nebraskans.

During a time when it can be difficult to find ways to volunteer and give back to the community while socially distancing, Keep Nebraska Beautiful Day is designed to bring people together as individuals and small groups share their volunteer efforts online through social media.

“With indoor activities and large group events limited due to coronavirus, we are seeing sidewalks, trails, parks, and campgrounds filling up with people,” said Meagan Deichert, president and CEO of Keep Nebraska Beautiful. “We love seeing people outside enjoying nature, but at the same time increased activity can lead to increased trash. Keep Nebraska Beautiful Day is a time to make sure our outdoor spaces remain beautiful and litter free, so they can continue to be enjoyed by all.”
