Leyton participants for Cornhusker Boys’ State

The American Legion Post 301 and Squadron 301, Sons of The American Legion of Dalton are pleased to announce that Jakob Kruse, Dawson Juelfs, and Gabriel Tretter have been sponsored to attend Cornhusker Boys’ State. These juniors from Leyton High School will join nearly 250 other high school juniors from across Nebraska participating June 5-11, 2022, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln downtown campus. This annual citizenship program sponsored by the Nebraska American Legion is designed to provide youth with a better understanding of how city, county, and state governments operate.

Local student headed to American Legion Auxiliary Girls State

Dalton—Tyenne Berner of Dalton has been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State June 5-11, 2022, on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Berner was selected based by Mintkin-Davison Unit 31 of Dalton. Berner will study local, county and state government processes in this nonpartisan political learning experience. Every spring, the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program provides approximately 25,000 young women with a hands-on educational opportunity designed to instruct tomorrow’s leaders in the privileges and duties of responsible citizenship.

Bridgeport Public Library

Bridgeport Public Library hosted a puzzle competition on Sunday afternoon. Each team consisting of two people were given a 300-piece puzzle and one hour to work. The three teams with the most puzzle pieces completed at the end of one hour took home a prize. Prizes were drinking cups made by Chelsea Sterkel on the library’s laser cutter. In first place was Connie Brown and Ginny Post, second place went to Preston Peyton and Josh Gandy, and third to Garland Crouse and Stacie Harden. Seven teams participated in the day’s event; the puzzles were donated by Patti Dean and bottled water provided by Sonny’ Super Foods.
