Bridgeport Elementary students hatch chicks

Bridgeport 3rd graders participated in the Nebraska Extension Embryology 101 program this spring in their science class with Mrs. Hedin. The newly created Embryology 101 program was developed by staff from across the state including Sarah Paisley, 4-H Educator for Garden and Morrill Counties, and Melissa Mracek, 4-H Educator for the Northern Panhandle. The program allowed youth to explore embryo growth inside of chicken eggs while learning about egg formation, transfer of physical characteristics to offspring, hen housing creating choices in eggs, and responsibility in caring for eggs and newly hatched chicks. Youth said their favorite part was candling eggs and seeing the embryo move.
