LINCOLN—Nicholas George Pappas of Bridgeport was among 723 graduates who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during a virtual graduation celebration Aug. 15.
The Bridgeport Public Schools’ Staff Appreciation Dinner was held Monday night, August 17, 2020 at the Prairie Winds Community Center. The theme of this year’s event was, quite appropriately, lemons, complete with lemonade and lemon cupcakes topped with a Lemonhead candy.

COURTESY PHOTOThe Bridgeport Bombers held their end of the summer celebration at Bowl Dog Lanes, trying out their luck in the sport of bowling. Instead of a ball flying through the air to hit a wooden bat, it was flying through the air to hit the slick wooden floor instead. The boys played several rounds, knocking down the pins like pros, ate supper, drank refreshments and had a generally relaxing time with their teammates and families before heading off to their own schools this fall.
The weather was hot and the ground parched when another set of travelers came through Morrill County this past weekend, their two hooved companions kicking up dust as they set off across the wide prairie in search of a place to make camp.
