110th graduating class of BHS
Commencement exercises took place for thirty-four Bulldog graduates this past Saturday, at the Bridgeport Public Schools gymnasium. As has been the case for so many activities the past few months, this ceremony, too, was a bit different than in years past. Chairs were set up in groups of six, spaced an even six feet apart around the gym floor and Graduates sat apart from one another in the area reserved for the students. Some wore masks and some did not, but the atmosphere was jubilant, and nothing seemed to damper the enthusiasm the students exhibited on their special day.
The Bridgeport band played a recorded rendition of Pomp & Circumstance as the students in their purple and black gowns flowed through the back door and walked the center aisle.
The welcome to the crowd gathered was given by Jerzie Menke, followed by speeches from both valedictorians, Bryce Deaver and Evy Loomis-Goltl. The two shared fun memories of their high school years together and empathized with their classmates in the pain of having missed the final weeks of school, and their life together as they have always known it. With their mourning behind them, they encouraged their classmates to look towards the future and all that it has to offer.
