BPS board considers refinancing school bonds

Goal is to save $395,000 over 19 years

The Bridgeport Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Monday October 12th at 7:00 p.m. All board members were present along with the administration, Ryan Amateis and Ms. Vonnie Brown. The board had one action item and that was to consider refinancing the school bonds to save the district 395K over the next 19 years. The board approved this possibility if the rate continues to hover around 2%. Currently the district is getting 3%.

Superintendent Lambert reported the following:

• We host WTC One Acts on November 24th, technically Kimball is the host, but they don’t have a one act team this year and want to use our facility. We also applied to host districts.

• We do not know where sub-district volleyball is yet as that will be based on power point seeding of the teams in the subdistrict, with the team with the most points hosting subs. Power points are derived by the records of the teams you have defeated.

• SPVA VB is at Grant on Saturday. The wearing of masks correctly is being mandated by the host school.

• The football team will most likely make the playoffs. We will not know if that is a home or away game until after our last game. 16 teams qualify for the playoffs with the first 8 teams based on power points hosting home games.
