Bridgeport city council to create Public Works Director position

Bid accepted for storage expansion at PWCC

The Bridgeport City Council met in regular session on Thursday, August 13th at the Prairie Winds Community Center and after routine business, the consent agenda was passed, and claims were paid.

A resolution was passed that will allow the closing of Main Street for the Homecoming parade on September 25, 2020, beginning at 3:45 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes.

Street Superintendent Dave Smith spoke on the engineer’s finding of the sewer line on L Street, which was looked at due to the recent backups in the L St. main. On July 30th, under the observation of M. C. Schaff Engineering, the City of Gering came to Bridgeport and televised the existing sewer main along that street and the sewer main along the north side of the new Cenex Station. According to their written report, the physical condition of the pipe was good. The concern was the amount of grease remaining in the pipe after it had been cleaned out. Their opinion is that the grease is the primary issue leading to the recent backups. During inspection, an issue at the Cenex Station was discovered and has since been corrected. It is recommended that the city routinely inspects the grease traps of local businesses, holding them accountable as needed. If the backup issues do not completely subside with maintenance, look at possible line replacement at that location. Smith also discussed with council changing some of the sewer ordinances to allow for a better inspection process.
