History, meaning behind annual Greek Festival hosted in Bridgeport

While the Greek Festival in Bridgeport is known far and wide, many may not know the reason behind the celebration, which dates back to 1926.

“During the early 1900s, European immigrants were still flooding to western Nebraska. Many of these people are our grandparents and great-grandparents, moving from Europe or from the Eastern U.S. for better opportunities,” began Steve Plummer. “Most communities in our area are heavily influenced by these settlers—Germans and German/ Russians, Irish, Italians, Greeks, and others.”
