County Board passes resolution stating they stand behind property tax relief

The Morrill County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution last week stating that the board supports the petition drive by True Nebraskans to place a property tax relief measure on the November 202 ballot. The initiative would provide a 35 percent refund to real estate property owners of the real estate taxes that they paid in the prior year.

The resolution states that this measure, if adopted, will not restrict the units of government who levy taxes, like the county and schools, and that those entities would still receive payments from the property owners as normally receive. It would be the state legislature that would be responsible for dealing with the cut in funding.

The resolution also states that the board recognizes the struggle that Nebraskans face in the payment of one of the highest real estate taxes in the nation.
