Diamond Jubilee for dedicated announcer
Jim Vassos was 19 years old in 1960 when he first began announcing football games for the Bridgeport Bulldogs, the year after he graduated high school himself. Players on the field that year consisted of boys like Dave Magdeleno, Dale Donnelly, LeRoy Weitzel, Ron Claspell, Barry Smith, Jim Woznick, and Gary Blakesley. The coach was Dick Sterup and the Bulldogs were still in the North Platte Valley Conference race that year into late fall. They dropped their last game on October 21st to the Mitchell Tigers, who knocked them out after a runaway win 40-19, advancing to the finals and sending the Dawgs back home with long faces. They ended that year 4-2 in the conference.
