Harden honored with Quilt of Valor
Michael B. Harden, Sr., was honored by the Panhandle Block of Quilts of Valor (QOV) on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at the Alliance American Legion Post #7 at a regular meeting of the Legion with the Panhandle Chapter #43 of the American Legion Riders in attendance.
The handmade Quilt of Valor that Harden received is the two hundred fifty-seven thousand fifty ninth quilt made since Catherine Roberts started the movement in 2003. Roberts started the endeavor, which later became Quilts of Valor, with the deployment of her son to Iraq that year.
To date, there have been 260,805 quilts given nationwide, with over 18,000 awarded so far this year. The Foundation’s focus “is on those in need of comfort and healing first; those who need to know their sacrifice is acknowledged, those who need affirmation of a hug, and those who never heard the words, ‘Welcome Home’.”
