Public hearing on LB840 sales tax increase, funding plan set for Thursday
A public hearing on the LB 840 economic development tax and plan is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Prairie Winds Community Center. LB 840 is legislation that allows municipalities to implement a half percent sales tax to fund economic development. In order to set up the fund, the city council must vote to pass the tax and the plan to implement the dollars and then it must be placed on the general election ballot where voters also have to pass both parts.
“This is critical. If we are going to compete with other communities in the panhandle, we have to have something to compete with and right now we don’t,” said Charlie Browne, Bridgeport City Council member. “It’s critical that this passes for the longevity of the community.”
