Thrivent Financial donates money for book drive
The Bridgeport Public Library was the happy recipient of a Thrivent Action Team grant worth $250.00, to support the library’s Non-Fiction Book Club. The books purchased with that money will be used to start a lending library for other libraries within the Nebraska Panhandle’s Library Consortium. Six copies of each of the six book titles were purchased, along with clear totes to keep the books together in. Five copies will be available to share with other libraries in Nebraska and the sixth copy will stay at Bridgeport for local patrons.
The Thrivent Action Team Leader for Bridgeport applied for the grant earlier this summer and was approved for a Non-Fiction Book Drive to be held during their regular Club meeting on Tuesday, August 25. The grant application stated that working with the librarian was important to determine what types of books and subject material was needed for our library. Realizing what non-fiction books can do for education in our community and rural counterparts was the determining factor in what books were purchased to share. The hope is to bring people together as a group, regardless of social or economic status, and discuss a book each month, with literacy as the common ground.
