Local boy wins U13 Missouri State Baseball Championship

For Nik Weibert, incoming eighth grader at Bridgeport Public Schools, summer is for baseball. The son of Tiffany Vergil of Bridgeport and Will & Shala Weibert of Sedalia, Missouri, Nik just finished the seventh grade at BPS and headed to Missouri for his third successful summer as part of The Sedalia Smoke, a competitive boy’s summer baseball team for youth 13 and under in that state.

Commissioners decide tax protests

The Morrill County Commissioners met Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. After approving the agenda, minutes of previous meetings and claims, the commissioners met as the Board of Equalization. County Assessor submitted an over valuation of $2700 that the commissioners approved, along with an extension for filing for homestead. The commissioners approved the list of “no change” protests and the list of “change” protests submitted by the assessor. After returning to regular session, the commissioners appointed Tyler Franklin to the Morrill County Fair Board.

It began with a gift

December 7, 2020, started out like any other day for the Hoffman family of Bayard. While America was remembering the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, many people were still getting ready for a regular workday, including the Hoffman’s adult children, all music educators in the Nebraska Public School system. Mid-morning, their lives would be forever changed when they learned of the sudden passing of their mother Sharon, who at age 64, had given so much of her life to not only her church and family, but music education in the Nebraska panhandle.
