Lucy Van Buren stands with her retirement cakes Thursday afternoon, July 1, at Sonny’s Super Foods during the celebration in her honor after 33 years of employment at the hometown grocery store. Lucy started working at Sonny’s in 1988 in the dairy department, then moved to the frozen food section before ending her longevity there in Produce. It began with a gift

December 7, 2020, started out like any other day for the Hoffman family of Bayard. While America was remembering the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, many people were still getting ready for a regular workday, including the Hoffman’s adult children, all music educators in the Nebraska Public School system. Mid-morning, their lives would be forever changed when they learned of the sudden passing of their mother Sharon, who at age 64, had given so much of her life to not only her church and family, but music education in the Nebraska panhandle.

Bridgeport welcomes new owners to Bowl Dog Lanes

Once upon a time, there were four guys who thought, ‘we want to own a bowling alley’, and so they did. Introducing John, Ben, Max, and Tim as the owners of the business venture The Dudes Abide, LLC, a nostalgic acknowledgement to the 1998 crime comedy Coen Brothers film, The Big Lebowski. Doing business as Bowl Dog Lanes, these four dudes and their families will operate the lanes that former owners Shawn and Stacy Watts got off the ground and ran for seven fun and successful years.
