Alexis Liras, Jane Plummer, Eleni Liras, Briley Burford and Sophie Heinzle dance among the dollars at the Taste of Greece meal on Sunday afternoon, February 21, while Nora Heinzle (standing behind) debates whether or not she’ll join in. Celebrating the Bayard church’s name day, Assumption of the Virgin Mary, about 400 participants stayed to eat the traditional Greek fare of roast lamb, beef, potatoes, feta, spanakopita, and walnut cake, while 150 takeout meals were served from the Prairie Winds Community Center. Church leaders were pleased with the turnout and grateful for all those who supported the event. Assumption Church is in its 95th year of the celebration and they invite everyone to attend the 95th annual Greek Festival on Saturday, August 7, 2021.

A winter storm socked the region with a foot of snow in Bridgeport over the Valentine’s Day weekend, just ten days after 65-degree weather had locals out in shorts. The official weather reported in town was an actual temperature of -26 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday overnight with bitter wind chills dipping as low at -36 on at least one residents’ phone.
