Follow the 2022 Pony Express Re-Ride

You can track the Pony Express Re-Riders and the mail as they travel 1,800 miles from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. The Pony Riders will travel day and night to make the 10 day trip. There will be a GPS (SPOT device) that is carried in the Mochila, which sends a “ping” to a satellite every five minutes. This ping is then marked by a Pony Rider Icon on the NPS Map at https://nationalponyexpress.org/re-ride/follow-the-ride/, for you to track and see the Re- Ride progress.

If you think you’ve seen more baseball games happening in Bridgeport this year, you would be right. This is partly due to the ten plus baseball and softball teams sponsored by the community center, and partly due to the new Bombers Panhandle Prep team. Since Little League stops at age 12, and Juniors don’t begin until age 15, a two-year gap often caused the boys to lose interest or find new opportunities to fill their summer evenings. With this new category of prep teams across the panhandle, the previously orphaned 13- and 14-year-olds are finding baseball competition at a new level, while providing them a steppingstone to the Junior League.

Gov. Ricketts announces initiative to improve mental healthcare access for service members, veterans, and their families

LINCOLN—Monday, Governor Pete Ricketts announced Nebraska’s participation in the Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide among Service Members, Veterans, and Their Families. Nebraska is one of 35 states taking part in the initiative from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs (NDVA) and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will be the lead agencies on the program. The two-year initiative will identify gaps in care and drive enhancements to the state’s mental health services.

History in cotton

In 1937, Redington, Nebraska was a populated little town in the southwest corner of Morrill County with its own post office, established more than 50 years before, a school, church, grocery store, garage, and more than two dozen homes. Named for Henry V. Redington, an Indian fighter and pioneer in the community, the outlying population towards Courthouse and Jail Rock, also with its own schoolhouse, post office and homes, was reportedly around 1,100 people at its peak in history. Also that year, a route now known as Highway 88 was designated, connecting the Redington community with Banner County to its west, and to roads N-29, N-86 and N-19, to its east and north, leading past the rocks to the metropolis of Bridgeport.
