History in cotton

In 1937, Redington, Nebraska was a populated little town in the southwest corner of Morrill County with its own post office, established more than 50 years before, a school, church, grocery store, garage, and more than two dozen homes. Named for Henry V. Redington, an Indian fighter and pioneer in the community, the outlying population towards Courthouse and Jail Rock, also with its own schoolhouse, post office and homes, was reportedly around 1,100 people at its peak in history. Also that year, a route now known as Highway 88 was designated, connecting the Redington community with Banner County to its west, and to roads N-29, N-86 and N-19, to its east and north, leading past the rocks to the metropolis of Bridgeport.

All gave some, some gave all

Owing to the torrential downpour on Monday morning, part of the Memorial Day services for the Oregon Trail Cemetery were moved to the American Legion hall in Bridgeport. Vice Commander Robert Landrigan gave them welcome, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Jonathan Seng petitioned the opening and closing prayers, and Steve Swedberg listed all the conflicts that America has been involved in since the first World War.

The paving district

The paving district in the southeast corner of town that included two blocks of U. Street and one block of 13th Street is complete and open to traffic. Dan Krentz won the bid to pave the gravel roads with concrete and he had it done in short order with help from Jonathan Seng, Joseph Smith, and Travis Sparks. They are seen here working to smooth out the concrete as it came out of the cement mixer, one of several loads of product from the local Croell plant. SARAH STRAWN
