Bridgeport mayor and city council met in regular session on May 12, at the Prairie Winds Community Center. Following routine business, the consent agenda was passed, including the approval of Nathaniel Rahmig, James Richards, Blaice Simones, Shawn Teppert Jr., Shane Varner, and John Wallen as probationary members of the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department.

CHADRON—Chadron State College students and faculty attended the Nebraska Academy of Sciences Conference April 21-23 in Lincoln. The students were Isioma Akwanamnye of Lagos, Nigeria, Corey Griffin of Omaha, Riley Hill of Greybull, Wyo., Abigail Klammer of Juniata, Neb., Spencer Knuth of Holdrege, Neb., Joshua Kruse of Gurley, Neb., Jared Nelson of Gordon, Neb., Thea Rosberg of Wausa, Neb., and Emmanuella Tchona of Republic of Benin. The faculty included Dr. Ann Buchmann, Dr. Mary Keithly, Dr. Jeffrey Kiiskila, and Dr. Mike Leite.
A semi-tractor trailer caught fire about a mile east of the Northport Junction on Thursday, May 5, and was fully engulfed within minutes, Broadwater and Bridgeport fire departments called to extinguish the blaze. Through traffic was shut down on both sides of the fire, with locals scurrying on the back roads to get to and from towns. The fire was brought under control quickly and the road opened to traffic sometime later when the debris was clear. SARAH STRAWN
