SKYVIEW NEWS

The care and rehab residents at Skyview at Bridgeport had a very nice Thanksgiving with several residents attending family gatherings outside of the facility. Residents were treated to turkey and maple ham, green bean casserole, corn bread casserole, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. For the special Thanksgiving craft, residents colored paper turkeys and then were asked what they were thankful for. The comments were printed on the turkeys, and all were hung up on walls throughout the building. Many were thankful for their family, kids and grandkids, God, and being alive.

Leyton School District is proud to recognize fifth-grade student Jonathon Reimers, who was honored with an opinion in the national magazine, Scholastic News. Jonathon, a lifetime student at Leyton, is in Ms. Jill Bartling’s elementary classroom. His op-ed is featured in this week’s December 6, 2021, edition and the topic for his opinion is an answer to the question, “Should teachers assign group projects?” Jonathon’s opinion was “no” and he listed the reasons that working on group projects can lead to division instead of teamwork and can cause disagreements about how the project should be done, thereby taking longer to finish. He also argued that sometimes, a couple people do all the work, while others do nothing, and that it can prove hard to be heard when several people are working on the same project at the same time.

A new tradition in Gurley is becoming a fun pastime for the children of Leyton’s elementary school in the decorating of a Community Christmas Tree. Three years ago, a tree located in the cemetery was wiped out due to a collision with a vehicle. Since the pine was sheared off at the base and the tree was still intact, Joe Schoolcraft, volunteer caretaker at the cemetery and former mayor of Gurley, brought the tree into town and set it up for all to enjoy. Kids decorated it as the time grew nearer to Christmas and the spirit of the town was evident. Then Covid hit and Christmas was lackluster all over, with no decorated Christmas tree in the town square.
