On Saturday, September 25, Bayard man Ed Tafoya was presented at his home with the Quilt of Valor for his service in the United States Marie Corps. Presenters of the quilt were the Panhandle Blocks quilting group and the Alliance American Legion Post 7. He is pictured here with his quilt and a photograph of himself as a young Marine. Tafoya enlisted in the Marines in 1955 and was sent to Camp Pendleton in California for Basic Training. He served at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego during the end of the Korean Conflict as part of the 7th Engineering Headquarters Company and as a Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor.
