Fred Henry Weibert, 75

Fred Henry Weibert passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family, wrapped in love and gratitude for a life well-lived.

Fred was born on February 10, 1950, to Fred John and Doris (Harris) Weibert in Hardin, Montana. He spent his early years on their Ranch at the foot of the Custer Battlefield along the Little Bighorn River, where his adventurous spirit blossomed. As the oldest of three siblings, Fred spent countless days exploring caves, roaming the open fields, and soaring through the skies alongside his father in airplanes—a childhood filled with wonder and freedom.

In 1965, Fred’s family moved to Custer, South Dakota, where he graduated from Custer High School in 1968. A year later, he met the love of his life, Jonilee Ellen Beehler, and from that moment, their story together began. Fred proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic, bravely fighting in Vietnam with the 114th Aviation Assault Helicopter Company until 1971. His courage and dedication were honored with multiple commendations, including two Air Medals with a “V” Device for Valor.

Fred and Jonilee were married on February 13, 1971, in Edgemont, South Dakota. Together, they built a beautiful life, welcoming four wonderful children—Shawn Dale, Misty Dawn, Jesse Dean, and William David—who were the pride of his heart.

Fred devoted over 30 years to a fulfilling career with BNSF Railroad as a telecommunications lineman, retiring in 2010. His work took the family to many different towns, but no matter where they lived—whether Fairburn, South Dakota; Lingle, Wyoming; or Bridgeport, Nebraska—Fred made every house a home filled with laughter, hard work, and love.

Fred found joy in the simple pleasures: hunting, fishing, turning a wrench, and spending time in the great outdoors. Some of his happiest days were spent with his children and grandchildren, searching for trophy bucks or the perfect fishing spot. Always willing to lend a hand, Fred often helped on the Ross farm during harvest season, driving the combine or hauling grain. One of his greatest treasures was his 1960 Chevy Impala—lovingly restored by his family as a final tribute to the man who spent a lifetime taking care of everyone else first.

Fred’s greatest accomplishments were not just in what he did, but how he lived: with kindness, strength, humor, and an endless devotion to those he loved.

Fred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jonilee; his children Shawn (Diana) Weibert, Misty (Robert) Ross, Jesse (Monica) Weibert, William (Shanna) Weibert; and a bonus son, Daniel (Ruth) Stanton. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply and proudly. He is also survived by his sisters, Margurite (Steve) Cullum and Judy Weibert; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends who became family along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law.

Fred’s life was a testament to loyalty, love, and laughter. His legacy will live on in every story told, every engine turned, every sunset hunt, and every heart he touched.

Memorial services were held on May 3, 2025, at the Church of Christ in Bridgeport, with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Interment followed at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery with military honors. At his request, cremation has taken place. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.bridgeportmemorialchapel. com.
