You may view Jim’s Book of Memories, leave condolences, photos and stories at www.gehrigstittchapel.com.
Jim was born on August 7, 1928, in Dalton, to Michael and Mary “Lena” (Alber) Troidl. He graduated from Gurley High School in 1946.
After high school he worked at the gas station in Gurley.
He engaged in trucking most of his life, starting with hauling grain. He worked as a safety coordinator for the Egging Company for many years. Then he went back to trucking, working for Ruan Transport and Wynne Transport. Jim began farming full-time in the late 80s early 90s, working from sun up to sun down.
On November 17, 1952, Jim married Peggy Munshaw; they just celebrated their 72nd anniversary this past November. To this union 5 children were born: James Jr., Patricia, John, Paula and Pamela.
He was a proud Husker fan, rarely missing a football, volleyball or softball game.
Whether it was cheering from the tractor, working in the shop or from his favorite chair at home, he loved watching the Huskers play and sharing that passion with family. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and took great pride in the local weekend trap shoot competitions (bringing home the “bacon”). One of his greatest joys was sharing harvest with his grandchildren. Each year, he made sure they had a chance to ride along in the combine, passing down not just the work, but the wonder of farm life. Family was very important and valuable to him. Jim was a member of St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, the Dalton Volunteer Fire Department for 50+ years, Dalton Lions Club, a board member of the Dalton Rural Fire District #2 for 40 years, Knights of Columbus and the Dalton Cemetery Board.
Survivors include his wife Peggy of Sidney, NE; sons James Jr. (Katherine) of Lincoln, NE, and John (Marge) of Atkinson, NE; daughters Patricia Keenan of Dalton, Paula (Roland) Parker of Dalton, and Pam (Shayne) Coker of Little Elm, TX; sister Irene Egging of St.
Augustine, FL; and 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Lena Troidl; Peggy’s parents Earl and Ruth Munshaw and Bernice Halaas; sisters Rita (Bill) Ormsby and Margerie (Louie) Enriquez; brothers Robert, LaVern, and Leonard; brother in-law Rick Munshaw; and 2 grandsons, Victor Parker and Bret Troidl.
