Lon Carlyle Kenny, 78
He was born on November 7, 1946, in Cass City, MI, to parents Earl and Delphine (Laursen) Kenny. Lon graduated Marlette High School and went on to receive his bachelors degree from Michigan State University–“Go, Green!” He married Barbara Kraft on April 19, 1969, in Marlette.
Lon was a trooper, then a sergeant, with the Michigan State Police before turning his focus to become the Chief of Police in North Branch. His career spanned 40 years before retiring in 2008. In retirement, he has been a member or volunteered with the Michigan State Police Troopers Association, Friends of Library (Lapeer), Lions Club of Lapeer and the Lapeer County Conservation District. Lon truly enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Lewiston, hunting, fishing and traveling. He found himself in all fifty states. Lon was a good and faithful man, a great example to others, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather—who will be missed.
Mr. Kenny is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; children: Meegan (Brian) Shephard of Ortonville; Chad (Marie) Kenny of Metamora; Sarah (Allen) Strawn of WI; grandchildren: Zachary and McKenzie Lange; Ariya, Mataya, Joshua and Ziana Kenny; Eden, Lars and Elia Strawn; sisters: Kristine (Larry) Weigert and Shannon (Rod) Ellis; siblings-in-laws: Janet Kraft, Karen (John Karavias) Kraft, John (Sara Wood-Kraft) Kraft, Helene (Don Spinks) Kraft, Matthew (Debra) Kraft; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents, in-laws Max and Evelyn Kraft, and brother-in-law Paul Kraft.
Lon’s visitation will be 4:008:00 p.m.Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. His Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m.Thursday, July 31, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer, officiated by Pastor Jared Nies.
The family will receive friends and family the hour prior at the church, 10-11 a.m. Cremation to follow.
