Betty (Dudgeon) Cape was born on December 25, 1931, to Ray and Jesse (Hibler) Dudgeon at Hastings Memorial Hospital. Betty grew up on the family farm at Trumbull, NE, and graduated from Trumbull high school in 1949.The next 2 years were spent at Hastings College preparing to be an elementary teacher. In the fall of 1951, Betty moved to Dalton where she taught 1st and 2nd grades. It was here that she met and married Charles Cape on June 15, 1952. Over the next 10 years, 6 children were born to Charlie and Betty: Bruce, Doug, Brian, Terri, Mark and Scott.

During this time the family moved 8 times, with the last move being to Mud Springs Ranch in October of 1961.

She was a stay-at-home mom and was forever baking pies, cakes, and cookies.

She loved making music on the piano and in later years played for the Presbyterian Church; eventually she also played the pipe organ and led the choir for 10 years. She was an active member of the PW and served many years as moderator. She was a big part of serving the chicken noodle dinner for Fall Festival.

Betty was a longtime member of the Mud Springs women’s club; she continued to build family floats after the club disbanded and was very proud of her floats! Betty greatly enjoyed her children’s and grandchildren’s school activities, hardly ever missing a game or concert. She was huge Husker fan and never missed a game!
