A memorial service will be held on January 16 at United Church of the Plains in Dalton on what would have been Lloyd and Johnadene’s 69th wedding anniversary.
Per Lloyd’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends can leave condolences at www.bondegardfunerals. com. Memorials may be made to the United Church of the Plains or to the Dalton Fire Department.
Lloyd W.Winkelman was born in Dalton, NE, to George Winkelman and Ruth Shinker Winkelman on July 8, 1936.
He attended Meadowlawn School and graduated from Dalton High School in 1953.
Lloyd enlisted in the U.S.
Army in 1955 and served at Fort Carson, Colorado; El Paso,Texas; and Woodbury, New Jersey, during his two years of service.
Lloyd married Johnadene Hayden on January 16, 1957.
They lived in Woodbury, NJ, until his discharge in the summer of 1957, when they returned to the family farm where he lived and farmed for the remainder of his life.
Three children were born to this union: Jeffrey Lloyd, Lisa Rae, and Michele Leigh.
Throughout his life he was an active member of the Dalton community. He served with the Dalton Fire Department, on the Dalton School Board, and on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church until it became the United Church of the Plains, where he remained a member for the rest of his life.
Lloyd loved spending time with his family—especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting with friends and sometimes giving them a bit of a hard time, fishing with Fred, Wink, and Gary, and sharing coffee with his buddy Merlin.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Johnadene; his children: Jeffrey (Deana) of Dalton, Lisa (Greg) Varner of Wasilla, AK, and Michele (Steve O’Dell) Winkelman of Fort Collins, CO; sister Darlene Fecht; sister- in-law Connie Winkelman; brother-in-law Kayo Cape; brother-in-law LaVern (Jody) Hayden; and brother-in-law Thomas (Linda) Hayden; grandchildren: Lindsey (Isaac) Gonzales, Shane (Meghan) Smith, Jaden (Nydia) Sears, HopeWinkelman O’Dell, Nevada Winkelman O’Dell, and Randy (Hilary) Strom; great-grandchildren: XayVian Gonzales,Tucker Sears, Joanna Sears, Emma Strom, Ella Strom, and Evan Strom. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Winkelman; parents- in-law, LaVern and Marie Hayden; brothers, Harold and wife Lenore Winkelman and Donald Winkelman; sisters, Evelyn and husband Robert Greeley, and Carol Cape; sister-in-law Jaqueline and Marvin VorderStrass; and niece Karen Fecht.
