Virginia Marie Coulter, 90

Virginia Marie Coulter passed away peacefully on the evening of December 8 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. She was 90 years old. Her services were held on Monday, December 15, with Reverend Jonathan Berosek officiating; burial followed at Redington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bridgeport, NE. Virginia was born on August 30,1935, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Carl and Lucille (Hard) Christensen; they lived in southern Garden County at the time.When Virginia was a young girl, she and her parents moved to a farm south of Bridgeport. As an only child, she spent much of her younger years with her grandparents who lived on the same property. She attended school in Bridgeport and graduated in 1952.Virginia married Calvin Coulter in 1951 and they lived in Lincoln, NE, until Calvin graduated law school; they then moved back to western Nebraska.

Calvin and Virginia lived on the Coulter Ranch near Redington for 62 years.They raised six children on the ranch and created an inviting atmosphere for their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and family to spend time together. Calvin and Virginia moved into Bridgeport in 2015, and Virigina remained there until moving to Heritage Estates in Gering in August 2025.

Virginia had many talents, and she was eager to share them with her family and friends. She shared her knowledge of sewing, cooking, and gardening. She was artistic and had a yearning to learn new things as she took different art and language classes after her children were grown.Virginia spent several years running a dress shop in Sidney, NE, with her friend Helen Goltl.

Virginia was an avid gardener and kept a beautiful yard. She was known for her delicious meals and “famous” chocolate cake.Virginia loved to travel with Cal or friends and was a proud member of the RedingtonValley Homemakers extension club. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, serving as an elder, Sunday School teacher,Vacation Bible School helper and as a member on various committees. She quietly lived out her devotion to God each day as her faith served as an anchor in her life.

Virginia is survived by her daughters Sheryll Coulter of Webster Groves, MO and Susan Coulter of Scottsbluff, NE; sons Kenneth (Peggy) Coulter of Rural Gering, NE and Lewis (Susan) Coulter of Bridgeport, NE; sister-in-law Madelyn Anderson of Broadwater, NE and brother- in-law BenYounglove of Lafayette, CO; grandchildren David (Sydney) Lienemann of Albuquerque, NM, Laura (Chris) Ochoa of Downers Grove, IL., Scott Biery of Scottsbluff, NE, Stephanie (Mike) McConnell of North Platte, NE, Jodi Smith (Kevin Hansen) of Cheyenne,WY, Danielle (Ryan) Buffington of Omaha, NE, Costa Lapaseotes of Bridgeport, NE, Nicole (Jacob) Dean of Bridgeport, NE, Cassie Lapaseotes of Bridgeport, NE, Ryan Blue of Cheyenne,WY, and Rachael Blue of Bridgeport, NE; 12 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Lucille Christensen and stepfather Leo Dean, in-laws Bern and Esther Coulter, husband Calvin Coulter, daughters Robin Coulter Lapaseotes and Kris Coulter, great-grandson Greysen Dean, brother-in-law Harold Anderson and sister-in-law Nancy Myers.
